We’ve arranged for external trainers from the Westlaw and LexisLibrary databases to deliver weekday training sessions at Guildford.
Thursday 22 and Friday 23 October
Monday 2 and Tuesday 3 November
Go to ELITE> Student Hub> Events, Activities & Sign-ups to find the full list of dates and times of the sessions, all of which will take place in LRC IT Room 217. To add your name, select a session and click on Sign up.
These sessions are popular and get filled very quickly, so you’ll need to sign up as soon as possible to guarantee your place.
Ever wondered about the differences between Lexis Library and Westlaw?
Here is a link to a pdf document created by the Institute of Advanced Legal studies comparing the two databases.
Exciting news – all University of Law students now have online access to over 100 of the key practitioner texts (key textbooks used by solicitors and barristers in practice). These include Snell’s equity, McGregor on Damages, Archbold, Chitty on Contracts, Clerk & Lindsell on Torts, Charlesworth & Percy on Negligence, Emmet & Farrand on Title, Exclusion Clauses & Unfair Contract Terms, IDS Employment Law Handbooks, O’Hare & Browne Civil Litigation, Palmer’s Company Law and many more….
You can access these resources via Westlaw . Login to Westlaw from the library services portal, then choose “Books”:
Posted on behalf of Hannah Joad, Westlaw Student Rep 2014/15
I hope you are all well.
My name is Hannah and I am your Westlaw Representative for the current academic year.
My role is to help students use Westlaw effectively so that they learn to become efficient researchers. This is important not only whilst you are here at the University of Law, but also because excellent research skills are essential to facilitate a successful career in the legal profession.
I have created a Facebook page and included the link in this email. You can ask me any questions via the Facebook page. I will also post regular statuses about drop – in clinics and useful advice about using Westlaw, so I recommend that you ‘Like’ the page.
I plan to run drop – in clinics on Mondays and Thursdays at 12.15 – 1.15 in IT Room 216 (ground floor of the Learning Resource Centre).
There is also a Westlaw notice board in the upstairs foyer of the Learning Resource Centre where I will post any information or news.
As you are probably already aware, there are Westlaw training sessions running in October conducted by one of Thomson Reuters’s external trainers. Information on these sessions is available on the Library website for our Guildford campus on Elite. I advise anyone who is not familiar with Westlaw, or anyone wanting to refresh their existing knowledge, to attend one of these sessions as it will be extremely useful.
If you would like to contact me personally about any Westlaw queries, my email address is Hannah.Joad15@law.ac.uk.
I look forward to meeting you over the coming academic year.
Applications for the post of Westlaw Student Associate 2014/15 are welcome from current GDL or final-year LLB students. The closing date for applications is 23rd May. Please click on the link below for further details. If you would like further details about the post, please contact this year’s Westlaw student associate, at email@example.com

My name is Kirsty and I am the Westlaw Representative for Thomson Reuters at the University of Law Guildford for the academic year 2013 – 2014. I am an LPC LLM student studying full time September to June and I am in college on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. It is my job to support students with their use of Westlaw for their legal research.
I will be running drop-in sessions at the University every week at specific times, where you can come and ask me any research questions you have. I will be able to give hands on advice during these times, tailored to your needs. Alternatively, you can contact me on my details below at any time and I will get back to you with an answer to your question.
Throughout the year I will also be running certification sessions, events and competitions. To keep up to date on these developments, and to find out where I will be for drop in sessions, please request to join the Facebook page in my contact details.
